How far in advance do I have to book?
A minimum of 24 hours notice is requested for all High Tea bookings. Online bookings are taken up until midnight of the preceding day. You may be able to secure a booking by phoning the restaurant after this time, however, to avoid disappointment we do suggest you try and book 24 hours in advance.
Do I have to pay a deposit?
Full pre-payment is required for all Afternoon Tea bookings. If you are booking for a group for High Tea, for example for a bridal shower, we will happily contact all of your guests to arrange pre-payment individually if you are able to supply contact details for each person at least 10 days prior to the booking. A deposit may be required at other times if you are booking a large group.
Why do I have to pre-pay for High Tea?
Our on-site chef and pastry chef hand-make the scones and decadent sweet treats for our High Tea on-site each day. Due to the time it takes to prepare these items it’s important that all our High Tea bookings are paid for prior to each sitting. We do allow for some additional customers to arrive unannounced, however, arranging pre-payment allows us to ensure minimum food wastage.
What’s the significance of Shingle Inn City Hall’s sugar bowls?
Shingle Inn City Hall’s original sugar bowls play a special role in the service and tradition within Brisbane’s oldest and most loved café.
With a variety of café names stamped on them, including Shingle Inn, Websters, Renoir and Yorktown (all cafes that were owned by the Webster or Bellchambers families or both), the sugar bowls are turned once an order at each table has been taken. When the service team looks down the row of booths they can easily see which, if any, tables require assistance.
“We hear lots of stories from customers who now visit Shingle Inn as adults, telling us how, as children, they’d cheekily turn the bowls back to gain the attention of the waitress. They’re such happy memories that we’re honoured to be a part of,” says co-Director Andrew Bellchambers.
Can I order a cake from Shingle Inn City Hall?
Yes. We have a wide variety of whole cakes for sale each day. You can select to enjoy a special occasion cake in-store with your High Tea or you can arrange to collect a cake to take away, either with a Happy Birthday ‘plaque’ or with a unique inscription. Pre-payment is required for all special order cakes and a minimum of 48 hours notice is required for specific messages. Please contact our friendly team on +61 7 3210 2904 to discuss your requirements.
